China Petro (CNPC) Latin America President Gong Ben Cai received by Dr. Marcus Lee at ICIF


November 15, 2012 (Lima, Peru) - China Petro (CNPC) Latin America President Gong Ben Cai was invited by International China Investment Forum (ICIF) to deliver keynote speech during the forum. Dr. Marcus Lee and Gong Ben Cai was in the panel of ICIF in 2011 discussing issues on success factors for Chinese companies to invest abroad. In 2012, Mr. Gong shares on China Economic Outlook. Also present was some 40 Chinese companies senior management, together with Chinese official medias.

According to Gong Ben Cai, China is becoming an important player in the global economy, with China-Latin America interactions improve tremendously, Latin American countries is becoming a focus for Chinese investments. China-Peru trading relations also among the best in the region. Currently, China is Peru’s largest export market and second largest import market. At the same time, Chinese companies investing in Peru also improving at an average of 20% annually. Currently there are around 50 Chinese companies join the Chinese Association, consist of 16 mining companies, 10 trading companies, 9 technology and services companies. Investing in Peru and China is attractive for both countries. Organizing the International China Investment Forum (ICIF) to discuss opportunities in trade, energy and mining is very useful.

November 14, 2012 (Lima, Peru) - Peru Minister of Energy & Mining, H. E Jorge Merino was invited by International China Investment Forum (ICIF) to deliver keynote speech at Country Club Peru. The  theme of ICIF 2012 forum was “Exploring Opportunities in Trading, Energy & Mining”. ICIF Chairman Dr. Marcus Lee met with Minister Jorge Merino. International China Investment Forum (ICIF), one of the largest China Investment and Trade forum was founded in 2002, it has organized seminars and conferences in over 40 countries in the past 10 years.

According to Minister Jorge Merino, he said Peru offers a stable investment environment. Peru government respect and protect foreign direct investment. In terms of tax, Peru Government offer equal treatment to  domestic and international companies. Nevertheless, some of the citizens may have concerns on environment and water pollutions during the mining exploration which may cause social problem. Hence, the Peruvian government will improve its communications between this parties, to ensure social issues are taken care while economic development take place.

According to Ambassador Huang, as China is undergoing rapid economic development, Chinese companies are growing in number investing abroad, contributing to global economy and trade. China companies provide talent, capital, technology, productivity and improve tax revenue to local government, resolve unemployment issues etc. The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China explain to the world that China is still a world economy growth engine, going through economic transformation plan, and trying to improve its social economy model. China economic growth will continue to make contribution to global economy.

International China Investment Forum (ICIF) 2012 successfully launched in Peru


November 14, 2012 (Lima, Peru), International China Investment Forum (ICIF) 2012 was co-organized by Hampton Court Investment Bank, Delmar Ugarte law firm and Chinese Association. The forum took place at Country Club Conference center in the city center of Lima.

Keynote Speakers include Peru Minister of Energy and Mines H.E Jorge Merino, Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China to Peru Ms. Huang Min Hui, China Petro (SAPET) President Mr. Gong Ben Cai, Peru Import & Export President Juan Varilias, ICIF Worldwide Chairman & Managing Director of Hampton Court Investment Bank Dr. Marcus Lee, Delmar Ugarte partners Manuel Ugarte and Ms. Viviana Garcia.

Total of around 200 audience participated in 2012 International China Investment Forum, making it one of the largest China Investment and Trade forum in the country. ICIF has been organizing seminars and conferences in Peru since 2009.

Trade between Peru and China would reach 15 billion in 2012, 15.38 percent higher than the 13 billion expected in 2011, Trade between Peru and China surpassed 10 billion in 2010 and this year would grow 32 percent. This increase is largely fueled by the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between the two countries and which entered into force in March 2010

Puente entre empresas chinas y latinoamericanas


30 de Noviembre, 2011 - Hace algún tiempo somos testigos de cómo innumerables delegaciones chinas visitan Latinoamérica y tratan de abarcar lo más que puedan en menos de una semana; asimismo, directivos de empresas latinoamericanas visitan constantemente ferias industriales en China, y quedan abrumados ante las enormes oportunidades que ofrece este mercado. Sin embargo, ¿cuál es el verdadero éxito de estas giras? De otro lado, compañías chinas se sienten atraídas por las oportunidades de inversión en el sector minero de países como Perú y Bolivia, al mismo tiempo que directivos de empresas latinoamericanas tienen permanentemente los ojos puestos en China. Nos preguntamos, ¿qué tan difícil es encontrar socios estratégicos en uno u otro lado o encontrar socios que lo serán a largo plazo?.

El Foro Internacional de Inversión China (ICIF) es un evento cuyo propósito es constituirse como un puente entre empresas chinas y latinoamericanas, ayudándolas a crear un ambiente adecuado de negocios, considerando las barreras culturales que pudiesen surgir entre ambos.

Este último 17 de Noviembre de 2011, Hampton Holdings Court, y Delmar Ugarte Abogados, firma de abogados peruana; alentados por el 40 aniversario de las Relaciones Diplomáticas entre Perú y China, y la atmósfera creada por la V Cumbre Empresarial China – América Latina (acontecimiento que tuvo lugar pocos días después en Lima, Perú); unieron sus esfuerzos en la organización de un foro, que tuvo como objetivo principal, reunir a directivos de empresas chinas y peruanas para discutir acerca de las oportunidades y desafíos de la inversión en América Latina, específicamente, en Perú. China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a través de SAPET Development Peru, auspició el proyecto gracias a su buena fe y experiencia sobre lo exitosas que pueden llegar a ser estas relaciones; convirtiéndose así en aliado estratégico del mismo.

El Foro ICIF 2011, concluyó exitosamente, con la participación de aproximadamente 100 participantes. ICIF 2011 contó, entre otros, con la participación especial del Dr. Marcus Lee, ponente principal y Director General y Jefe de Economía de Hampton Court Holdings; Elmer Cuba, Director de la firma MacroConsult, Carlos González, Gerente de Estudios Económicos de las Asociación Peruana de Exportadores (ADEX); Harry Chang, Director de la Agencia Peruana de Promoción de la Inversión (PROINVERSION); Miguel Ronceros, socio de Delmar Ugarte Abogados y; Bencai Gong, Presidente de CNPC South America Ltd. El evento fue presidido por Viviana García, socia de Delmar Ugarte Abogados.
La importancia del evento quedó demostrada al contar con presencia en los medios de prensa incluso desde antes que se llevara a cabo. Entre la prensa interesada estuvo: Mundo Empresarial, de Canal N; El Comercio; El Correo y Asia Adentro, Blog de Semana Económica, quién decidió además echar un vistazo a los planes para el próximo año.

Es importante señalar que la industria manufacturera, la agricultura y el comercio, serán el tema central en ICIF 2012 que se realizará el próximo noviembre en Lima – Perú. Evento que se estima tendrá una duración de día y medio y que promete exposiciones, lanzamiento de libros, un cocktail de cierre y mucho más. Esperamos tener la misma o incluso una mayor acogida que este año.

ICIF 2011 impact doubled compare to event in 2009 in terms of number of participants and media total viewers. Our team have make an exceptional effort in preparing International China Investment Forum (ICIF). We have work with medias before, during and after the forum. ICIF distinct itself from other similar forum as “we move one step faster”. China's total foreign trade volume in 2012 reached more than 3.86 trillion USD, growing by 6.2 percent year on year. The growth rate is 16.3%  less than 2011. China will still face a hostile foreign trade environment as a result of sluggish demand, increasing production costs, fewer orders and trade protectionism.

China's biggest trading partner is Europe, trading declined 3.7 percent year on year in 2012. The total trade volume in 2012 between China and Cyprus is 1.2 billion USD, increased 5.4 percent year on year in 2012.The import from Cyprus to China in 2012 is 119 million Euro, increased 351.6 percent year on year.

Since 2006, Cyprus Business community express interest in China market ahead of President Papadopoulos official state visit to Beijing. With this background ICIF partner with CIIM (Cyprus International Institute of Management, FT Top 30 Ranked Executive Education Worldwide) to organize ICIF seminar: Doing Business with China. Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China to Cyprus H.E Zhao Yali officiated the seminar. Also presents was Cyprus National Chamber of Commerce President together with some 100 CEOs and senior management. ICIF-CIIM initiate was the 1st Doing business with China in the country.

On November 15th, 2011 Viviana García, partner at Delmar Ugarte Abogados and co organizer of the International China Investment Forum (ICIF) in Peru, was interviewed  in Mundo Empresarial, Peruvian TV program from CANAL N, cable channel.



Ms. García mentioned that  ICIF represented a business platform, or a brigde between Chinese and Latin American entrepreneurs.;  given that the main purpose of this platform was to create an environment by which such entrepreneurs could exchange information with real possibilities of building long term relationships.  . Additionally, she, mentioned that ICIF 2011 was the first of the forums that will take place in the following years. Finally, Ms. Garc[ia mentioned that Delmar Ugarte Abogados was one of the first Peruvian law firms with an Asian Area of Practice and with experience of working with investors from both sides of the Pacific. .
